‘Tween-ing into the New Year

We walked into the New Year… like literally 🙂

On the 31st, we sat mulling at home, wondering what to do. Every one was busy with their families and we were kind of done being busy. After having sorted all our house work, I saw that gloom coming over the tween’s face. “What can we do Mumma to ring in the New Year? We have already ordered for a much loved takeaway and its raining, so we cannot do firecrackers. What should we do?”

I know she loved doing activities together and then when my Mum said she was baking a cake in India to ring in the New Year, my dotty girl and I decided to do the same. She had never baked a fruity upside down cake so we decided to bake one. She loves to bake too and that is a bonus. So we went about baking 🙂 My easy-peasy Eggless Apple Upside Down Cake 🙂 And what a lot of fun that was. The satisfaction of seeing a well baked cake turn out is inexplicable 🙂 Cheap thrills may be, but cheap thrills are the best thrills, don’t you think?!

The first day of the year was ushered in with a loong walk by the canal which is our favourite place to go to. Of course, now the house is really further away than before, the walk was not committed to till a promise was made to stop for a leisurely cup of hot chocolate and cake. Of course, we said Yes! 🙂

We came back home to some good TV… The beautiful short animated film by Charlie Mackesy – The boy, the mole, the fox and the Horse. Have you watched it yet?! Have you read the book yet?! Its lovely, both of them. It was really like a warm hug. But then that was just 30 minutes.

What else is good TV for a ‘Tween? I am still struggling. I mean, we have done the Enola Holmes, Wednesday and all that…but everything else just borders on adult-ish content. A 11 or 12 year old is still a kid and does not need to watch all the courtship drama of confused teenagers getting over their crushes. What are your kids watching? Any suggestions anyone?! She likes a good amount of action, thriller, suspense and a good story. Would love to hear your views.

The New Year did come in with lot of cuddles, hugs, good food and music. We are back to school tomorrow and it is bittersweet. Hope you are all keeping your chin up 🙂 Nothing much has changed really… its just another day and a change in the dates, except that we want to believe that good things are about to happen. And they will 🙂

So here’s wishing a very Happy New Year to all and may your days be filled with the brightest of sunrises and the most beautiful sunsets.

About Madhavi

Mompreneur | Blogger | Painter | ... and on most days I am all of these and more if I manage to shake off the lazy air around me. I love reading and listening to human stories of survival, of creating a niche, of achievements and successes. I love it more when it is not a celebrity, when it is people around us. And even more striking when it is women. I love travelling and believe that essentially every human being is more or less the same, there is much more goodness and kindness in this world than what is made out to be and irrespective of territorial borders across the world, at a human level.. everyone wants just that... peace of mind and a home to belong. Utopian you think?! Nah! trust me.. it is a wonderful world out there.
